Fire Up! Forward Information for Parents and Supporters

Every student deserves a shot at higher education and Fire Up! Forward is a dual enrollment program with your budget in mind.  Through the approved Fire Up! Forward course list, your student can find their passion, earn college credit from a 4-year institution, AND tuition cost is minimal.  Courses are offered online, on campus in Mt. Pleasant, or in some cases, right in your local district.  

Why enroll in Fire Up! Forward? 

University education made accessible

Courses are offered at our main campus in Mt. Pleasant, online, and in some school districts.  

Save time and money

Fire Up! Forward courses are offered at minimal cost to families, and some districts cover the cost of books too.  Your student can earn up to 30 credits before they graduate high school.

Explore interests and career path 

Fire Up! Forward courses are curated to help students explore potential career paths and academic interests before they get to college. 

Develop valuable skills

By taking college-level courses, students can develop important skills such as time management, study skills, and critical thinking, which can benefit them in their future academic and career pursuits.

Student eligibility

To be eligible for a CMU Fire Up! Forward dual enrollment course, students must:

  • Be enrolled in at least one high school class in a school district, public school academy, or state-approved nonpublic school in Michigan.
  • Have at least one parent or legal guardian that is a resident of Michigan (unless the student is experiencing homelessness).
  • Hold junior or senior standing and have a cumulative GPA of a 2.8 or higher. Conditional admission may be granted through appeal.

*Unfortunately, at this time, foreign exchange students enrolled under a cultural exchange program are not eligible. If you have questions, please email dualenrollment@cmich.edu
