Undergraduate Admissions Criteria

Admissions criteria2

Your students are looking for a "how to become a CMU Chippewa" roadmap. We got you. Here's what we, and the President's Council of State Colleges and Universities, suggest for high school students. Helping them prepare for admission and the academic standards here at CMU.

  • 4 years of English
  • 4 years of mathematics
  • 4 years of biological and physical sciences
  • 4 years of history and social sciences

In addition, we encourage high school students to complete two years of foreign language, two years of electives in fine arts and one year of hands-on computer experience.

We know that sometimes it takes awhile to adjust to high school. It's why we consider the trend in students' grades, looking for improvement all the way through high school.

No ACT or SAT score? No problem.

We're test option, which means students can still earn admission and a Maroon and Gold Merit Recognition Scholarship based on GPA alone. Students always receive the highest possible award and scores will only increase a student's award, never lower it. So if they've taken or re-taken the SAT or ACT, we recommend sending them. They might just be able to earn a higher scholarship!
