Transfer tips from CMU admissions

Outside the Health Professions Building

Bob Garcia is a CMU admissions representative who has worked with dozens of students who have successfully transferred to CMU.

Here are his tips:

Meet with a CMU admissions counselor. “As soon as you know transferring to CMU is even a possibility meet with a CMU admissions counselor – it’s never too early.”

An admissions counselor can help you:

  • Follow the appropriate transfer guide
  • Select the right courses to take to ensure they will transfer and count towards your specific graduation requirements
  • Choose the best time to transfer to CMU
  • Learn about scholarship opportunities and financial aid that is available to transfer students
  • Update a previous application to CMU
  • Find out more about on-campus housing opportunities
  • Explore academic options

Get to know the process. “Fully understanding the process is the best way for students to make their transfer go as smoothly as possible.”

Bring your paperwork. For the initial meeting, students should bring a copy of their unofficial transcripts from all other colleges and/or universities attended.

Meet with Bob or another admissions representative by contacting CMU’s admissions office here.
