LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
POINTS OF PRIDE
Central
Michigan University is recognized as the premier higher education
institution in the state for the development of Michigan’s next generation
of ethical leaders. This is due in large part to the following:
First
four-year university in the state of Michigan to offer a
leadership minor.
The
CMU Leadership Institute is the state’s most comprehensive
university-based program for leadership study in terms of leadership
development, training, and education.
The
Leader Advancement Scholarship is the first
and only scholarship for college leaders which incorporates a residential
cohort experience, academic protocol, service learning, and an
experiential component.
CMU’s
student leadership programs serve over 5,000 students ranging in age from
grades 6-12 to university level. Over 4,000 CMU students participate in
leadership development initiatives annually.
The
Leadership Institute maintains a Leadership
Resource Center, whose collections include leadership assessment
instruments, team development cooperatives and initiatives, a portable
ropes course, and publications.
The
Institute and the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps continue their strong relationship by providing joint
leadership training and development for CMU students, including a week
long program to promote the awareness of leadership on campus.
The
Central Michigan University
Department of
Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services maintains an adventure
learning facility which features a 32-foot indoor
rock wall and high ropes course
tailored for teambuilding and leadership development. The
facility is utilized by many constituents in the state of Michigan.
The
CMU Leadership Institute collaborates on programming efforts with one of
Michigan’s most recognized
Volunteer
Centers and the nationally prominent
Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates
program.
The
CMU Leadership Institute has partnered with graduate-level students in the
Industrial/Organizational
Psychology Department to develop several leadership and organizational
effectiveness assessment devices.
The
vast majority of leadership development programs on CMU’s campus are
coordinated by undergraduate students. The Leadership Institute,
Leadership Safari, and Leadership Camp employ nearly 20 student program
coordinators. |
