Mission Statement
The Central Michigan University parents organization exists to involve
parents of current and former undergraduate students in the life of the
University.
Strategic Goals
- To enhance and facilitate communications between Central Michigan
University and parents on topics of interest and concern to parents and
students.
- To promote and sponsor programs and services that meet the needs of
parents and students.
- To promote the development of the University and its students with
financial support to the annual Parents fund.
Operational Guidelines
- Parents who have children currently enrolled as undergraduates in the
University shall be deemed members of the Central Michigan University Parents
Association. Those parents who continue to show an interest in the University
and wish remain active after their children have graduated shall be deemed
members of the Association.
- No dues shall be charged for membership in the Central Michigan University
Parent Association.
- A Parents Advisory Council will be formed to represent parents of
current and former students. This council will serve and support the mission
and strategic goals of the Parents Association, and serve as an advisory group
to assist University officials in directing the activities of the Parents
Association. The Parents Advisory Council shall be reflective of the student
body, to the extent possible, in class, gender, and ethnicity.
- The purposes of the Parents Advisory Council include:
- To serve as a liaison between al Central Michigan University parents and
the administration and the faculty of the University by communication the
needs and concerns of the parents.
- To provide advice and counsel to the University administration.
- To assist in the implementation of programs involving Central Michigan
University parents and attend as many as possible.
- To encourage and promote annual gifts for the Parents Fund.
- To serve in other capacities in support of the Parents Association as the
Dean of Students may request.
- The Parents Advisory Council shall be facilitated by the Dean of Students.
- All members of the council shall be appointed by the Dean of Students of
the University from a list of nominees provided by members of the University
staff and be current and former members of the Parents Advisory Council.
- The Dean of Students, the Director of Public Relations, the Director of
Annual Giving, the SGA Student Body President, and the Associate Dean of
Students shall be members fir the Parents Advisory Council.
- The terms of membership to the Parents Advisory Council shall be the
length of the members' students' experience at Central Michigan University,
preferably beginning in the fall semester of their freshman year and
concluding at their time of undergraduate graduation.
- Meetings of the Parents Advisory Council shall take place on the main
campus at least once a year. Members of the council shall cover their own
travel and lodging expense for these one day meetings. It is not the intent of
the University to have these meetings more than twice in any one year.
Central Michigan University Parents Fund
The Parents Fund exists to provide a way to enrich students' Central Michigan
University experience. Through it, parents of current and former CMU students
help fund special programs, activities, and services for undergraduate students
on the main campus.
Strategic goals of the Parent's Fund:
Financial support to this fund will enable more CMU students to engage in
experiences and use services in the following areas that may otherwise be
limited or unavailable.
- Co-Curricular Learning supports a number of projects and activities
with faculty, alumni, businesses, community agencies, or other students. These
include student research, internships, community service, conferences, and
more.
- Campus Enrichment underwrites student organizations' initiatives
that promote student development and learning beyond the classroom.
- Student Recognition recognizes the demonstrated outstanding service
by students to CMU and the community.
- Educational Enrichment supports presentations and speakers.
- Leadership Development focuses on programs and activities that
support the growth of leadership skills among students.
- Health Promotion and Safety supports student safety and wellness
programs and services. These include sexual aggression services, campus
nutritionist, etc.
- Career Development assists students with their planning and
transition from university to world of work opportunities.
