Assault Services
An area of continued concern for universities throughout the
country is sexual assault upon students. Because of the
nature of the crime, sexual assault frequently goes
unreported. This makes it difficult for the university to
assess the magnitude of the problem, determine the scope of
services necessary to combat the problem, and evaluate the
success of prevention and intervention services.
Central Michigan University has established its Sexual
Aggression Services in order to educate members of the
university community regarding sexual assault, and to
provide consistent, caring and timely responses when sexual
assault occurs. With these considerations in mind, Sexual
Aggression Services has established policies and procedures to
do the following:
-
Facilitate the swift recovery of an assault survivor by providing prompt and
compassionate support services.
-
Create a campus environment that both expedites and
encourages the prompt reporting of sexual assaults.
- Facilitate
the apprehension of assailants when such crimes are committed, reported, and
charges filed.
- Establish
and cultivate a climate of community empowerment and education.
