Feel the excitement

The raucous cheers at an intense, action-packed basketball game … the ringing in your ears of the crowd at a sell-out concert … the pride you feel listening to the alma mater during a commencement ceremony.

All these experiences and more will be made possible in CMU’s proposed Events Center, which will transform the university’s existing Rose Center into a new, first-class complex serving the academic, athletic, and community needs of the university and citizens of central and northern Michigan.

On July 16, 2009, the Board of Trustees gave approval to move ahead with the construction phase of Rose Arena to create the multipurpose Events Center. The action included $18.5 million in funding for construction. $2.5 million had been allocated earlier for architectural design.

The privately funded Events Center will include:
  • Completely redesigned angular exterior and bright glazed-glass entrance
  • 10,000 square-foot lobby and reception area
  • Redesigned arena with upgraded comfortable seating for 5,300
  • A new 12,000 square-foot practice facility
  • Student fitness center
  • Academic teaching space

We invite you to share our vision to build a new gathering place for CMU students, faculty, staff, and community members alike. Together we will infuse the university with a new level of excitement and possibility.
