Jim Abbott overcame a birth defect of having only one hand and pitched his way into Major League Baseball. The talented Michigan native played for such teams as the California Angels, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers.
Abbott proved his doubters wrong by winning 12 games with a 3.92 ERA for the Angels his rookie season. A noted highlight of his 10-year professional career came when he threw a 4-0 no-hitter for the Yankees against the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium on September 4, 1993.
Before going to the Majors, Abbott led the University of Michigan to two Big Ten titles and, as a member of Team USA in the 1988 Summer Olympic Games, threw a complete game seven-hitter in the United States' 5-3 victory over Japan for the first-ever United States gold medal in Olympic Baseball competition.
Abbott now shares his stories of courage and overcoming adversity to help inspire people to achieve their goals and dreams.
