Capital City Internship Program

This office maintains a Lansing internship program. Each semester, CMU students, representing various majors and grade levels, work in a variety of Legislative, Executive, and special interest offices. This is a tremendous opportunity for CMU students to learn the critical role government plays on campus and in our communities. We appreciate that many of our Capital Chippewa alumni serve as mentors for these interns, sharing their experiences and expertise through networking events throughout the semester. All students, regardless of major and year, are encouraged to apply.  Internships are available during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.  

Transportation, provided by CMU, and parking are available two days a week during the fall and spring semesters.

Academic credit can also be obtained with approval from a faculty advisor.

Next steps for securing an internship

After you review potential internship opportunities, contact Megan Morris (gill1mm@cmich.edu or call 989-774-3871) to start a conversation about your interest. In order to successfully land an internship for the following semester, these are suggested dates to make contact with Megan Morris:

Fall semester: April 1 (deadline for securing an internship is early August)
Spring semester: October 1 (deadline for securing an internship is late November)
Summer semester: February 1 (deadline for securing an internship is early April)

Supplemental resources

The Ballenger-Browne Endowment provides financial support to political science students completing internships within all branches of the state and federal government. The endowment provides students with a stipend for transportation and other expenses related to the internship activities.
