Changes to Family Status

Unusual Financial Circumstances

If you have changes in family status due to unusual circumstances, such as unusual medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance, expenses associated with a parent attending college, a family member who recently became unemployed, or changes in income or assets, it may affect your eligibility for financial aid. You must submit a Central Michigan University Special Circumstances Appeal Application, with required documentation, to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA). Special circumstance requests require careful review and additional processing time. This form will be available on March 1 from the OSFA (Bovee UC Student Service Court). The appeal deadline for the 2020-2021 academic year is March 1, 2021.

Dependency Status

The OSFA is required to follow federal regulations in determining a student's financial aid dependency status. If you have questions regarding your status, please review the Financial Aid Independence information.
