Hello and thank you for visiting the website for the CMU Division of Student Recruitment and Retention.  On behalf of the many staff and students that work within our division, I want to welcome you and encourage you to further explore CMU.

The offices in this division exist to provide service to prospective and current CMU students as well as to other departments across the university.  Our focus is on helping you find out what a CMU Chippewa is, does and achieves so that you can decide if becoming a member of this community is the right move for you. 

A CMU Chippewa is a person who exhibits a Fired Up attitude.  Fired Up about pursuing their dreams and goals and Fired Up about making a difference at CMU and in the world. 

A CMU Chippewa is also part of our family.  And at CMU, we are a community that lifts each other up.  For example, over 350 CMU Chippewas volunteered to mentor over 1,100 new students who started at Central in Fall 2021. 

CMU was the first public university in Michigan to offer a Leadership minor.  Leadership is in our DNA and you will graduate with a degree as well as all you need to be an informed and active member of your community and workplace.

CMU students are well prepared for their first professional job or the pursuit of a graduate degree.  By working with faculty on research and scholarly work, participating in internships and leadership opportunities or experiencing the world through study abroad, CMU Chippewas are Fired Up and ready to go when they complete their degrees.

Mission statement

The division of student recruitment and retention is committed to recruiting, enrolling, and graduating broadly diverse students whose CMU experience will help them discover their unique identity; preparing for a future with productive careers, meaningful lives, and responsible citizenship in a global society. We do this through the design, implementation, and execution of strategic, innovative, and data-informed enrollment and student success practices in support of the CMU mission.
