We Value Diversity

President’s welcome:

CMU President Mike Rao

A more diverse learning and living environment for students, faculty, and staff at Central Michigan University is one of my priorities — an important one. Passage of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative in November 2006 has not changed CMU’s commitment to wholeheartedly embrace and expand diversity while honoring Michigan law. The university has an obligation to prepare students for an increasingly diverse environment and to treat all people with respect.

Discrimination is illegal. Everyone in the CMU community is to be treated with respect and professionalism. Anyone who believes that they have experienced discriminatory behavior should contact the Affirmative Action Office located in 428 Park Library at 989-774-3253.

This Web site is one way to increase communication on campus and in the community about important diversity policies and initiatives. Associate Vice President for Institutional Diversity Dr. Denise O’Neil Green continues to explore ways to expand diversity in our environment. Anyone who has questions or ideas may contact her at 989-774-3700 or green1do@cmich.edu . Additionally, the institutional diversity Web site can be accessed at www.diversity.cmich.edu.

I ask for your support to ensure that CMU is a university that embraces and appreciates diversity and all people. I also ask for your help in fulfilling the university’s obligation to serve all of its people well by welcoming diverse people who will enrich the learning experience, the performance of our graduates, and our overall environment.
