Configuring Outlook for Exchange

Outlook 2007

  1. Close Outlook 2007 if it is open.

  2. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.

  3. Double-click the Mail icon. If the mail icon is not visible, it might be necessary to click Classic View from the left Explorer pane.

  4. In the Mail Setup window, click the E-mail Accounts button.

  5. In the Account Settings window, click on the New button.

  6. The "Add New E-mail Account" window will open. Check the Manually configure server settings or additional server type option and click the Next button.
    NOTE: It is VERY important that the "manually configure" option is checked before proceeding any further.

  7. Click the Microsoft Exchange option and click the Next button.

  8. The "Microsoft Exchange Settings" screen will appear. Enter the following information:
    • Microsoft Exchange Server: Enter the Exhange server the account resides on (if you do not know your mail server, contact the Help Desk at (989) 774-3662)
    • User Name: Global ID
    • Uncheck the Use Cached Exchange Mode option
    • Click the Check Name button
  9. If the information was put in correctly, your name will appear in full and underlined. Click on the Next button.

  10. Click the Finish button, and then start Outlook. If prompted to designate Outlook as the default email client, click Yes.

 

Outlook 2003 and XP (2002)

  1. Close Outlook if it is open.

  2. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.

  3. Double-click the Mail icon. If you do not see the Mail icon, you may have to select Classic View from the left Explorer pane.

  4. Click the E-mail Accounts button.

  5. Click the Add new e-mail account option, then click the Next button.

  6. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server option and click the Next button.

  7. The "Exchange Server Settings" screen will appear:
    • Microsoft Exchange Server: Enter the mail server (if you do not know your mail server, contact the Help Desk at (989) 774-3662)
    • User Name: Global ID
    • Uncheck the Use Cached Exchange Mode option (Outlook 2003 only)
    • Click the Check Name button.
  8. If the information was put in correctly, your name should display in full and underlined. Click on the Next button.

  9. Ensure that Mailbox - username is selected in the "Deliver new e-mail to the following location" dropdown (bottom left of the "Email Accounts" screen) and then click the Finish button.

  10. Start Outlook. If prompted to designate Outlook as the default email client, click Yes.
