Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction
Tutoring
Tutoring is a free university service available to you if you need assistance in 100-300 level courses. You'll meet with tutors one-on-one and get the extra help you need in your class. If you did well in a class and are looking for an opportunity to help other students, you can also apply to become a tutor (see below).
Tutoring requests
The Tutoring Office is no longer accepting tutor requests for the Spring 2024 semester. Please check back in August to submit requests for the Fall 2024 semester! Feel free to reach out to tutoring@cmich.edu with any tutoring-related questions.
Tutoring for math, writing and science
Need extra help with math? If you need support with your undergraduate math class, check out one of the walk-in Mathematics Assistance Centers.
Need extra help with writing? The Writing Center specializes in helping you writing for any subject - not just your English classes.
Need extra help with science? Visit the College of Science and Engineering's Student Resources for peer-assisted tutoring in chemistry, computer science and physics.
Becoming or recommending a tutor
Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction is often provided if you are enrolled in a historically challenging class. Supplemental Instruction (SI) includes a series of review sessions, led by an SI leader, who prepares a review from each lecture the instructor gives. If you did well in a class and are looking for an opportunity to help other students, you can also apply to become an SI leader.
I want to become an SI leader
If you want to become an SI Leader, application cycles take place two times per academic year.*
Position Requirements:
- 2nd year student
- GPA 3.5 and above
- B+ or higher in the class you wish to lead
Please note that a referral form is required and you will need to send the form to the instructor you select as a reference.
