Central Michigan University is committed to providing students, faculty, staff and visitors a healthy environment for living, learning and working. CMU’s campus and properties became tobacco-free on July 1, 2014.
CMU is among thousands of smoke-free and tobacco-free U.S. and Tribal colleges and universities.
Smoke-free and Tobacco-Free U.S. and Tribal Colleges and Universities
The tobacco-free policy prohibits:
- Traditional cigarettes
- E-cigarettes
- Chewing tobacco
- Pipes
- Cigars
- Hookahs
- Waterpipes
- Snus
- Snuff
- Any other forms of tobacco
The policy applies to all CMU properties, facilities and vehicles in which university functions are offered or carried out, regardless of location (including CMU sites whether owned or leased). Smoking and tobacco use will be permitted only in privately owned vehicles. Windows should remain closed to limit smoke exposure to others.
