Whether you prefer a quiet, comfortable place to study or you like to spread out and brainstorm using a whiteboard, the four-floor Park Library is the place to get your study on. With amenities like computers, printers and scanners, whiteboards, moveable furniture and plenty of power outlets, we've got your early morning, midday and late-night study sessions covered.


1 North Study Room

This first floor room is open 24/7 with just a few exceptions, making it a great late-night or early morning study spot. It includes tables and individual study pods, as well as library computers (Mac and Windows), color and black & white printers, Bloomberg Terminals, and scanners.

Library Cafe

The Library Cafe on the first floor is open 24/7 and provides a great space for meals and conversation at any time of day. In addition, there are restrooms, water, vending, and a microwave. Directly across from the 1 North 24/7 study space, the Library Cafe complements the quieter study atmosphere of 1 North.

1st Floor Quiet Area/Extended Hours Study Entrance

Study carrels and tables are available in the first floor quiet area.
Every college library has spaces that tend to be quieter. For us, this place is the First Floor Quiet Area. There are plenty of tables, carrels, computers (Mac and Windows) and both black and white and color printers.  The Quiet Area is open during normal library hours and we offer extended hours on select days.  A valid CMU ID is required to enter and exit this space after hours through the Library Cafe.

Family Study Room

The Family Study Room is available for current CMU student, faculty and staff who are parents or caregivers who bring their children with them while using the library. Located on the first floor, the room contains toys and books for children, a private lactation space, study furniture, whiteboard, and a computer for adult use.

Baber Room

Doubling as a study space and a rotating art gallery, the first-floor Baber Room is sure to be your new favorite spot in the library. You could spend hours studying in our cozy furniture. Just be sure to take a well-deserved break and enjoy the art exhibitions featuring local and global artists.

Clarke Historical Library Reading Room

Located on the first floor, just inside the Clarke Historical Library, the reading room offers an inviting space for using materials from the Clarke's extensive collections of CMU History, Michigan history, children's literature, and Native American materials.

Because the Clarke has one-of-a-kind and irreplaceable materials, reading room policies do not allow food and beverages and the items may only be viewed in the reading room. 


Copeland Suite

Located on the second floor, the Copeland Suite is a highly adaptable space for both individuals and groups. If you like to map ideas on a whiteboard, talk things out, or practice your presentation check out the Copeland Suite. This comfy, second-floor space has moving furniture, three-sided study areas, plenty of places to plug in your devices and even flat-screen monitors.

Adobe Digital Lounge

Located on the second floor, the Adobe Digital Lounge is great for both individuals and groups.  This comfy, second-floor space has a sound booth with equipment for checkout, three-sided study areas, and  flat-screen monitors to facilitate group discussions. Experts in using creative software are also available during drop-in help hours.

3 East

Located on the third floor, 3 East is a 3,000 square-foot group-friendly space. Designed with collaboration in mind, 3 East features three-sided study areas, whiteboards, lounge furniture, and movable tables and chairs. Need to charge your laptop or phone between classes? 3 East has you covered with ample power outlets for firing up your devices!

Mary Dow Reading Room (Quieter Study)

The Mary Dow Reading Room on the 3rd floor is another comfortable and quieter study space that offers a mix of seating options. The individual 3-sided study areas with adjustable height desks and whiteboards have both space and flexibility. Then there are large tables, study carrels, and cozy study pods. 

Individual Study Rooms

Book a Study Room
Reservations are required to use the Individual Study Rooms with whiteboards located on the 3rd floor of the library.

The library also offers Individual Research Rooms which can be booked by doctoral students, faculty, and emeriti for an entire semester.

Group Study Rooms

Book a Study Room
Reservations are required to use Group Study Rooms and are intended for use by two or more people. They are located on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th floors of the library. All group study rooms have whiteboards and five of the rooms are equipped with a 40” LCD screen which can project from a laptop or other device.

General Library Seating
