CMU Mid Michigan College Joint Nursing Education Pathway (JNEP)
The CMU-Mid Michigan College Joint Nursing Education Pathway (JNEP) Program is designed as a partnership with the Mid Michigan College associate degree nursing (ADN) program and CMU’s RN-to-BSN program. The goals of the pathway include:
- A shared curriculum model to facilitate enrollment and completion of both ADN and BSN programs within 4 to 5 years.
- Streamlining students’ progression from ADN to BSN Sharing faculty across community college and university programs to increase student success
- A curriculum that supports completion of the BSN within one year after completing the associate degree program.
The program’s development has been led by Dr. Kechi Iheduru-Anderson, CMU Director of Nursing, and Barb Wieszciecinski, Mid Michigan College (MID) Dean of Health Sciences. As part of this program students begin at CMU as a full-time student for about 1.5 years, then move on to MID as a full-time student for just over a year to complete an Associate Degree and earn an RN license, then return to CMU for a year or more to earn a BSN.
Overview of Joint Nursing Education Pathway
Three-phase program
Phase 1: You are placed into a specific pathway at pipeline program enrollment and spend Phase 1 taking prerequisite courses at CMU so you can qualify for MID’s ADN/RN program. You also complete all facets of the application to MID’s ADN/RN program and are accepted and enrolled in it. See the program handbook or the phase two requirements for details.
Phase 2: You begin coursework in the ADN/RN program at the partner institution in the pathway in which you were placed. Mid Michigan College has two campuses. If you enter phase two in the fall, you will attend classes and labs at the Harrison campus. If you are admitted into phase two in the winter/spring, you will attend the Mt. Pleasant campus. Phase two ends when you graduate with your ADN from the partner institution and pass the NCLEX-RN examination. At that point, you will have completed the prerequisites for the CMU RN-to-BSN program and will be able to return to CMU to complete your BSN.
Phase 3: You begin phase 3 begins when you complete your ADN course work and achieve your RN through the partner institution in the pathway to which you were assigned. After completing the ADN course work, you will be required to obtain licensure by passing the NCLEX-RN. You are expected to take the NCLEX-RN examination within 60 days of completing phase two. In Phase 3, you will complete your BSN coursework at CMU and graduate from the RN-to-BSN program.
