Dietetic Internship Learning Experiences

We have a unique partnership with a variety of medical centers that provide you with outstanding learning experiences. Your internship will include rotations in basic clinical, food service administration, and clinical specialties as well as unique educational opportunities.

Basic clinical rotations

Rotation duration

  • 10 weeks, five days per week

Rotation highlights

  • You will experience multi-disciplinary team rounds or conferences, charting, nutritional assessments, case studies, nutrition care planning, counseling, group and individual education, professional education, discharge planning, educational materials development, quality management, nutrition support, use of the computer, consulting and home health care.

    • Two, three-week rotations, five days per week

    Rotation highlights

    • You will develop specialized skills in more advance areas of dietetic practice.

    Clinical staff responsibility

    Rotation duration

    • Three weeks, five days per week

    Rotation highlights

    • You will work independently, assuming day-to-day responsibilities of a staff clinical dietitian.

    Public health

    Rotation duration

    • Three weeks, five days per week

    Rotation highlights

    • You will experience life span nutrition, group and individual education, professional education, nutrition promotion in the media, newsletter writing, and staff training.

    Hospital food service management

    Rotation duration

    • Five weeks, five days per week

    Rotation highlights

    • You will work independently assuming responsibilities of a dietician in food service management.  You will experience menu planning, catering, inventory, food and supply procurement, cost control, employee scheduling and supervision, employee education, quality management, foodservice system layout and design, use of the computer and equipment selection, use and maintenance.

    Classes

    • You will attend conferences, seminars, projects lectures, workshops, and field trips two afternoons per month.

    Orientation

    • Orientation occurs during the first week of the internship (five days per week).  It will include staff introductions, facility tours, intern presentations, program policies and procedures, evaluation process, introductory skills in dietetic practice.
