Department Scholarships in Military Science and Leadership

Scholarships—including on-campus food and housing—are given through the Department of Military Science and Leadership to students enrolled in MSL courses. Applications are also available in Finch 111.

Food and housing scholarship

CMU established six food and housing scholarships in 1993. These are competitive awards given annually to both high school seniors winning four-year ROTC Scholarships and current students. Renewable. 6 on campus.

Eligibility:

  • The recipient must display a cumulative GPA of 3.00, Military Science GPA of 3.00, and 260 APFT score.
  • Excellent attendance and attitude.
  • Must be Contracted (or pursuing this route).

Housing stipends

8 on-campus rooms $1,000 per semester.

Eligibility:

  • The recipient must display a cumulative GPA of 3.00, Military Science GPA of 3.33 and 260 APFT (High school GPA 3.0).
  • Must be Contracted (or pursuing this route).

John G. Kulhavi Scholarship

Generously provided by John G. Kulhavi to CMU Army ROTC Cadets who have chosen to serve their country as members of the U.S. Army.  John Kulhavi was in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Brigadier General. ROTC Alumni class of 1965.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be high-quality Scholar-Athlete-Leaders (with 3.0 GPA).
  • Based on merit.
  • Financial need is considered.

Colonel William B. Nolde Scholarship

These funds honor Colonel Nolde’s devotion to God, country and family. He was a graduate and former assistant professor of Military Science at CMU. Nolde’s life was characterized by a dedication to peace and rebuilding, with the hope that all mankind would try to understand one another.

Eligibility: 

  • Scholarship awarded to Contracted cadets, preference given to cadets with at least a sophomore standing. Financial need is considered.
  • Students must be high-quality Scholar-Athlete-Leaders (with 3.0 GPA).

Michigan 22nd and Beyond ROTC Endowment

Established in 2008 by Army ROTC alumni and friends in honor of the dedication and support of the Michigan 22nd (the first group of cadets to arrive at Ft. Campbell KY for summer camp) and retired department secretary, Beverly Denise Gallagher. Income from this endowment will support a renewable scholarship for a student enrolled in the Department of Military Science Army ROTC classes. Renewable.

Eligibility:

  • The recipient must display a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

William Talcott Annual Award

Established in 2014 by ROTC Alumni William Talcott to honor his experience as a distinguished military graduate from CMU, Intended for student support and to support ROTC program activities. Renewable.

Eligibility:

  • Minimums GPA of 3.0 & must be a full-time student.
