Early childhood majors
Early Childhood Development and Learning
A child's earliest years play a tremendous role in determining what's to come. Work with children and caring mentors as you turn theory to practice. When you graduate, you'll be ready to lead children to lifelong success in Head Start programs, preschools and child care centers.
Teaching Early Childhood, B-3 & Early Childhood Special Education
This program provides the widest range of ages you can teach along with the most diversity in teaching environments. Prepare to teach ages between birth and third-grade, in settings such as childcare, preschool, pre-kindergarten through third-grade classrooms, and home settings.
Teaching Early Childhood, B-K & Early Childhood Special Education
This period of incredible physical, emotional and cognitive growth lays the foundation for future success and wellness for all children. Prepare to teach ages between birth and kindergarten in childcare, preschool and kindergarten classrooms and home settings.
Teaching Grades PK-3
Prepare to address the needs of the whole child by establishing a supportive, engaging environment that fosters learning. Those certified to teach in the Pk-3 band are qualified to teach in pre-kindergarten classrooms to grade 3.
Teaching Grades PK-3 with Special Education
Prepare to address the needs of the whole child by establishing a supportive, engaging environment that fosters learning and meets the needs of all learners. Those certified to teach in the Pk-3 band are qualified to teach in pre-kindergarten classrooms to grade 3 and in special education programs grades K-12.
Other human development and family studies
Child Development
Build the foundation to lift others toward successful futures with the child development major. Work with people from infancy through early adulthood, advocate for the rights of children, become a social worker or counselor or engage with youth in various family and community settings.
Family Studies
In CMU's family studies program, you'll build the skills to help others confront challenges they experience in the home, like coping with financial pressures, communicating with a spouse or dealing with substance abuse.
