Honorary Alumni Award
Lon Morey
After Lon Morey attended a CMU Opus gala, he decided that more people in the community needed to experience Central’s music program.
"I am part of the general public, and I had no idea the excellence and talent that I would see during Opus and during my tour of the School of Music," said Lon, a Mount Pleasant resident. "I want others to see that there is much more going on at CMU than meets the eye."
So Lon, president, and CEO of Morbark Inc. and The Morey Foundation donated funds to create the Senior Music Outreach Program – a reception and college concert in the CMU Music Building for residents of assisted living facilities.
The concert features student performers from Opus and other showcase music events. The gift, given from the Morey Foundation, enabled CMU to provide transportation for older adults to attend School of Music concerts.
The Morey Foundation, founded by Lon’s father Norval Morey, continues to support CMU. Recently the foundation pledged $1 million to the College of Education and Human Services for the new Education Building.
