Spencer Long was a dedicated student leader during his time at CMU, and he continues that commitment to students today. His leadership development journey at CMU started from day one with Leadership Safari. Spencer quickly ascended within the organization, serving as a guide, a member of the core team and a staff assistant. Many of the main components of Safari to this day are the result of Spencer’s work as a student.

While on campus, Spencer served in a variety of leadership capacities within Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, he was heavily involved with the Student Government Association as a senator, treasurer and the chair of various committees, and he gave his time to many other student organizations and activities.

Notably, Spencer played a key role in the establishment of the Victory Cannon, a trophy that goes to the winner of the annual CMU-Western Michigan football game. While the trophy itself garners a great deal of fanfare, Spencer was also a part of creating the campus blood and food drive challenges to promote community service and engagement on the rival campuses.

In 2008, Spencer earned the Constellation Award from CMU’s Office of Student Life, honoring the leadership experience and impact of students at the university. That year, he also graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. In 2010, Spencer earned a master of arts degree in educational leadership and administration.

The Central Michigan University Alumni Association is honored and proud to announce Spencer Long as the recipient of this year’s Student Life Dedication and Service Award.
