Theatre and Dance Student Organizations

The Department of Theatre and Dance serves as a base for many exciting organizations which foster student growth inside and outside the classroom.

Alpha Psi Omega

Alpha Psi Omega is a nationally recognized co-ed fraternity that strives to provide opportunities for students to get involved with CMU University Theatre and the university and Mt. Pleasant area communities. Each year the fraternity produces plays that have won their sponsored student playwriting contest.  They also award a scholarship each year to a deserving student who is not a member but has made significant contributions to the academic and production programs in TAD at CMU. Each spring, APO sponsors the Mask and Hammer Awards (outstanding achievement on-, off- and back-stage).

CMU Dance Alliance

CMU Dance Alliance is a student organization within the Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Media. They are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment that will help prepare students for their upcoming year at CMU and those seeking performance-based employment (or other employment related to the dance industry {arts administration, teaching, etc.}) before entering the workplace.

CMU Dance Alliance focuses on practicing and learning about Dance professionally and personally to help the transition from college to career be as smooth as possible. They sponsor guest speakers, provide networking opportunities, participate in fundraisers and volunteerism, and host social events. CMU Dance Alliance promotes personal and professional growth through campus and community involvement and creates a happy, healthy, and safe place for students to come and expand their interests.

The CMU Dance Alliance is open to Dance Studies majors, Dance minors and all dance enthusiasts; all are welcome!
