Central Michigan University and the CMU Faculty Association today announced the ratification of a new five-year collective bargaining agreement. The ratification followed voting by members of the FA, which concluded last week.

The FA, representing more than 500 faculty members, is affiliated with the Michigan Education Association.

Members of the Faculty Association and CMU administrators met 11 times during the months of May and June in formal bargaining sessions. The new agreement, ratified today, provides for bargaining unit members: salary increases each year for the next five years, increases in the university’s contributions to members’ medical insurance, increased support for parental leave and added support for sabbatical leave.

“Throughout our meetings, both CMU and Faculty Association representatives worked in good faith to wrestle with and come to an accord on several important and complex matters,” said Dennis Armistead, executive director of Faculty Personnel Services. “We are pleased with the newly ratified contract.”

While ratified today, the agreement is effective for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024, and lasts through June 30, 2029.
