CMU’s PSE chapter is building careers one competition at a time
From sales challenges to national recognition, Pi Sigma Epsilon helps students develop professional skills, build confidence, and make lifelong connections
Spring at Central Michigan University isn’t just about melting snow and warming temperatures—it’s about heating up the competition. Sales competition season is in full swing, and for members of Pi Sigma Epsilon, that means high-stakes challenges, powerful networking opportunities, and career-defining moments.
The CMU Sales Challenge, happening on Friday, February 14 in Grawn Hall, is a chance for students to put their elevator pitch skills to the test in front of industry professionals. The event also includes a marketing case competition, where teams tackle real-world business challenges. For students who want to push their skills further, the CMU vs. Western Michigan Sales Rival Challenge on Friday, February 28 brings together top sales talent from both universities to compete in sales simulations, roleplays, and pitching events.
Beyond competitions, PSE is more than just a sales and marketing society—it’s a foundation for success. Open to all majors, the organization provides students with mentorship, hands-on training, and a strong professional network. “You don’t have to know anything about sales to join,” says Kayli Kalish, a management senior from Naperville, Ill., current PSE member, and former society president. “We teach everything you need to know, and the skills you gain—whether it’s public speaking, confidence, or strategic thinking—apply to any career.”
A key ingredient in PSE’s winning formula? Mentorship. Under the leadership of faculty member Nick Hussein, the organization fosters a culture of coaching and support, helping students navigate competitions and career opportunities. “Professor Hussein makes sure every student in PSE gets value from the experience,” says Kaylish. “Whether it’s through connections, competitions, or career guidance, he’s always there to support us.”
“Professional sales is more than just selling, it is all about developing a skill set that can be applied to life moments,” said Hussein. “We are always selling, and nothing happens in business until you sell something.”
With a 100% job placement streak for members after graduation, PSE isn’t just about competing—it’s about launching careers. “We call it ‘the secret sauce,’” Kalish says. “The preparation, the teamwork, the community—it all adds up to something special.”
For students interested in stepping out of their comfort zone, building confidence, and gaining real-world experience, PSE and the CMU Sales Challenge offer an opportunity to grow and succeed.
