Emergency and Safety
CMU is a vibrant, active, nurturing community serving about 20,000 students on our Mount Pleasant campus. Many people say we’re a big university with a small-campus feel — big enough to offer 300+ academic programs, yet small enough that we know our students by name.
Part of the appeal of CMU is our record of safety that stacks up favorably in comparison to other universities and their hometown communities.
Our police department is staffed with more than 20 sworn, Michigan-certified officers. We administer a Central Alert system to notify students, faculty, and staff of emergency situations, including campus closures or delays or threats of potential danger. We also compile and post reports about crime statistics.
We make safety an ongoing priority at CMU, from our Rave Guardian Safety App and blue-light phones … to an extensive network of streetlights across campus and unique services such as the nationally renowned Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates that teach students to stand up for themselves and others.
