Central Michigan University Libraries will offer study break activities beginning the last week of classes through finals. From April 22nd through May 3rd, students can play boardgames, work on puzzles, or color. There will also be therapy dogs available in the library Monday, April 22 through Thursday, April 25 and Sunday, April 28 through Wednesday, May 1 from 1-3 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. During this time, the library will also be highlighting study resources available to students.
These services, located on the second floor of the Park Library, have been offered for many years. In addition to being beneficial to the well-being of students, these activities also align with Associate Dean of University Libraries Tim Peters’ goal of encouraging “...students to use the library in any way that suits their needs. It is certainly a place for study and research, but also a place to unwind, pursue personal projects, or meet with friends.”
Providing opportunities for students to relax is not the only way the library will be serving student needs during finals week, however. In addition to acting as a space for relaxation, librarians will also be serving academic needs through Central Michigan University Libraries’ 24/7 Ask a Librarian chat service. Ask a Librarian serves as a valuable resource to students carrying out late night/early morning study sessions as finals approach. This service is staffed by Central Michigan University librarians during business and evening hours and by librarians from other institutions during other times of the day and night.
All of us at Central Michigan University Libraries wish students luck as they work toward their final accomplishments of this semester.
