Central Michigan University Student and Behavioral Health Services has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. More than 6,600 ambulatory healthcare organizations across the United States are currently accredited by the AAAHC. This achievement has been earned through a continued commitment to outstanding service and strict adherence to rigorous standards of quality care, safety and patient satisfaction.
The process of becoming accredited was a year-long collaborative effort between clinic leadership, staff and several other university departments. The clinic setting and procedures were extensively reviewed and compared against national healthcare benchmarks and best practices. The AAAHC conducted thorough on-site inspections and assessments to ensure the clinic and the providers adhered to the highest industry standards.
In preparation for this review, every aspect of the scope and delivery of care was reviewed. Two specific and notable enhancements were the advances in infection and quality control and the development of a peer review process for the providers.
Drew Curry, Director of Clinical Support Services said, "Achieving AAAHC accreditation for CMU Student Health Services and Behavioral Health Services is verification of the hard-work, dedication and outcome-driven mindset that the staff, providers and leadership have towards continuing to provide high-quality healthcare for patients during their time of need, every day."
The cohesiveness of the clinic leadership, staff and providers was noted by the surveyor, as well as their commitment to serving the students of CMU. This accomplishment is the first accreditation of student health enjoyed by CMU and a testament to the exceptional healthcare services offered to the students of CMU.
"The CMU College of Medicine's commitment to excellence extends well beyond academics and research initiatives. It encompasses the wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community," said Dr. George Kikano, vice president of health affairs and Dean of the College of Medicine. "This national accreditation is recognition of our commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services."
