Podiatric Medicine and Surgery

Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency | CMU College of Medicine

Prepare to become a leader in podiatry

The CMU College of Medicine Podiatric Medicine & Surgery residency program is a fully integrated program with an emphasis on developing well-rounded podiatric physicians and surgeons.

We seek enthusiastic residents who want to make important contributions to the field, especially those who share our mission to expand services in Northern Michigan. Those who seek to contribute to the field in other places and in other ways will also find that our program offers outstanding training for whatever their personal mission in podiatry may be.

Why choose CMU for podiatric medicine and surgery?

The goal of the CMU Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency program is to provide the trainee with the knowledge and clinical experience in foot and ankle surgery to become competent and well qualified to practice as a podiatric physician and surgeon.

This goal is accomplished by combining an academic environment with training in podiatric surgery including forefoot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. We provide resident physicians with the experience of in-patient and outpatient protocol and the services offered by the various departments of the hospital so that they may function as a well-qualified member of the medical staff. Additionally, the intention is to provide the trainee an awareness that many foot and ankle pathologies are not limited in nature, but may be of a systemic origin and require a solid foundation in the basics of internal medicine.

As a resident, you will rotate at Level II trauma hospitals, two surgery centers, and podiatric and non-podiatric clinical facilities. You will conduct daily hands-on patient care and rotate with the attending faculty throughout their training, as well as benefit from a variety of didactic education and professional development experiences.

The program provides exposure to both inpatient and outpatient protocols, with the services offered by various hospital departments. You'll develop an awareness that many foot and ankle pathologies are not limited in nature, but may be symptoms of another issue which requires a solid foundation in the basics of Internal Medicine.

Our approachable and welcoming faculty come from a diverse range of training locations and bring their real-world experience to the classroom.
