Central Michigan University’s Director of Alumni and Donor Engagement, Brittany Milan, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Rising Star Award by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V. The district encompasses Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota and includes over 400 member institutions and more than 2,500 representatives.

The CASE District V Rising Star Award recognizes professionals with three to ten years of experience in advancement whose achievements set them apart from their peers. It honors those whose early success demonstrates enthusiasm, commitment to the profession, and a deep understanding of philanthropic goals.

“I am truly honored and humbled to accept the CASE District V Rising Star Award and be recognized among so many talented and passionate professionals in the field,” Milan said. “I have deep gratitude to the mentors who have guided, challenged and inspired me throughout my journey—Marcie Otteman, Jennifer Cotter, and Jeremy Mishler. Each played a pivotal role in helping me grow, not only as a professional but as a person. I am also thankful to be part of a team that pours their hearts into everything we do for our alumni and students. It’s an honor and a privilege to work alongside people who genuinely care.”

Her professional experience spans just over a decade, with roles at CMU in alumni relations, event services, and academia, where she has played a pivotal role in strengthening alumni networks and advancing institutional goals.

“Brittany brings a wealth of expertise in engagement, event planning, and strategic collaboration to every endeavor,” said Jeremy Mishler, CMU Deputy Chief of Advancement and Campaign Strategies and CASE District V Cabinet Chair. “She has a passion for higher education, alumni engagement and event management and has dedicated her career to fostering meaningful connections within the CMU community.”

Beyond CMU, Milan has demonstrated a deep commitment to community leadership through her long-standing involvement with the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees. She has held leadership roles, including President, and has also served as Co-Chair of the Mt. Pleasant Craft Beer Festival for the last six years. During her time with these groups, they have collectively raised over $250,000 for local initiatives.

Milan holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in recreation and event management, both from CMU.

“I am incredibly proud to be a CMU Chippewa,” Milan said. “Central Michigan University is more than just my workplace—it’s my home. It’s a place that has given me countless opportunities to learn, to lead, and to make meaningful connections. CMU has shaped who I am today, and I’m endlessly grateful for the experiences and relationships I’ve built over the years.”
