Retirement Status and Courtesies

CMU Retiree status criteria

To be considered a CMU Retiree, employees must satisfy one of the following requirements:

  • Twenty-five (25) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age
  • Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service and at least age fifty-five (55)
  • Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age if totally and permanently disabled as determined by the Social Security Administration

These criteria apply to the following employee groups:

  • Professional and Administrative
  • Senior Officer
  • Office Professional
  • Supervisory/Technical
  • Police Officers
  • Sergeants
  • Dispatchers
  • Service Maintenance
  • Fixed-Term Faculty
  • Public Broadcasting
  • Regular Faculty
  • Medical Faculty

CMU Emeritus status criteria

Emeritus status may be awarded to the following employee groups with Board of Trustees approval:

  • Senior Officer and Professional and Administrative - salaried CMU Retiree with at least 10 years of full-time CMU service
  • Regular Faculty - CMU Retiree with at least 10 years of full-time service
  • Medical Faculty - CMU Retiree with at least 10 years of full-time service
  • Fixed-Term Faculty - CMU Retiree with at least 10 years of full-time service
  • Board of Trustees upon completion of at least 8 years of service

CMU retiree courtesies

CMU retirees have dedicated a significant portion of their lives and energy to Central Michigan University.  As a way of extending our appreciation, we are pleased to offer a number of courtesies. The courtesies include:

    The CentralCard Office issues all CMU identifications and handles the services related to the functionality of identification (I.D.) cards. To obtain your retiree photo I.D. card, visit the CentralCard Office. They are located on the main floor of the Bovee University Center.  The first I.D. card is complimentary, however, there is a replacement fee if you lose or damage your card.     A complimentary on-campus parking permit enables retirees to visit campus and use parking lots with an F designator. The permit can be obtained on or after your retirement date from Parking Services, located at the CMU Police Department in the Combined Services building, during regular business hours. Your current automobile registration and driver's license may be requested. For questions concerning parking permits, contact 989-774-3083 or parking@cmich.edu.

    CMU retirees are invited as guests of CMU to attend University Theatre and School of Music presentations. To obtain your complimentary tickets, visit CMU Ticket Central located in the John G. Kulhavi Events Center on Broomfield Road, or call 989-774-3045. Tickets are required. It's also recommend you reserve your tickets prior to the evening of the performance as seating availability cannot be guaranteed on the night of performances. Two complimentary tickets may be requested to each performance with the understanding that these tickets are not transferable and must be used by the retiree and guest.

    All persons who retired prior to March 1, 1990, will receive, upon ordering, two complimentary football and basketball tickets. Tickets are available at Ticket Central located in the John G. Kulhavi Events Center on Broomfield Road any time prior to the day of the game. Photo identification will be required. Tickets are not transferable and must be used by the retiree and guest. All employees who retired on or after March 1, 1990 but prior to March 1, 2007, may purchase one or two season tickets at the discounted retiree rate. All employees who retired on or after March 1, 2007 may continue to purchase one or two season tickets at the faculty/staff discounted price. Chippewa Club seating will only be made available for donors at the appropriate giving level. Football club and suite seating along with basketball lower level seats are not available at discounted prices. This offer is subject to availability and is not available on the day of the game.     Ticket Central

    Retirees are eligible to purchase a membership to the SAC. Memberships can include your immediate family members (e.g. spouse/other eligible individual, dependent child/ren). Membership costs vary by membership type. Please contact University Recreation at 989-774-3686 or visit University Recreation for additional membership information and to apply for a membership.

    A cmich.edu email account is provided free of charge to retirees with emeriti status only through the Office of Information Technology. This is an automated process that will take place as soon as the account is listed in "emeritus" status by CMU Advancement. Advancement updates this list once a month. Emeriti with questions or concerns about their email account may contact the OIT Help Desk at 989-774-3662 or visit the OIT website. Non-emeritus retirees will have access to their cmich.edu email account for one year after their retirement date.

    CMU Global ID and password to access CentralLink (the CMU portal) will be active for a variety of news and information, including CMU Today messages and W2/pay statement access.  For assistance, please contact the Office of Information Technology Help Desk at 989-774-3662 or visit the OIT Help desk website.

    All CMU retirees are eligible for guest user access to CMU Libraries. Emeriti employees are eligible for additional services including remote access to databases and Documents on Demand. Please contact the library’s Access Services department at 989-774-3114 if your emeriti account has expired.

    Library services

    Cellular service is available to retirees through CONNECT CMU Cellular Services. CONNECT CMU provides wireless account management services and reduces the costs on wireless plans, features and devices with exclusive, negotiated rates. Cellular account holders are responsible for paying their bills using personal funds.
