Paid or unpaid leave
Will I be paid or unpaid?
The university will require you to use sick leave for your own serious health condition, or a medical condition of a qualifying family member. After all sick leave has been exhausted, all vacation eligible employee groups must use vacation and/or personal time prior to taking unpaid leave (unless you are exercising the option to bank time – see CMU's Family and Medical Leave Policy for additional information).
**To estimate how much leave time you'll have available at the start of your leave, how it will be used and/or accrue while you are out, you can utilize the appropriate leave balance spreadsheet by clicking your employee group below:

Are there any options for wage continuation after I go unpaid?
Serious & Catastrophic Leave banks have been established so that qualifying individuals who have exhausted all paid leave (sick, vacation, personal and accrued compensatory time) may apply for supplemental paid time off to attend to their own, or a family member's serious & catastrophic illness.
