Central Michigan University and the CMU Faculty Association announced today ratification of a new five-year collective bargaining agreement following member voting early this week.
The agreement, which represents about 633 faculty members, is effective July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2024. It provides modest annual increases reflecting CMU's sensitivity to enrollment numbers and appropriate increases to the employer's contribution to health care premiums. the parties also agreed to language creating parental leave for bargaining unit members who do not accrue paid vacation.
CMU and the FA met for 12 formal bargaining sessions during May and June with the teams logging many more hours of preparation in the months leading up to bargaining and also during collective bargaining.
CMU has settled all three collectively bargained agreements that expired this summer. Within the last two months, the university also reached agreement with the UAW Local 6888 — CMU's clerical and office support employees — and the CMU Chapter of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians-Communications Workers of America. The CMU Faculty Association is a unit of the Michigan Education Association.
