Acceptance
Each recipient must acknowledge the acceptance of the scholarship award in writing to the Director, School of Engineering and Technology within 30 days of the date of the award letter.
Available CMU scholarships
School of Engineering and Technology Scholarship
Eligibility: Any incoming or transfer Engineering or Engineering Technology student may apply. Recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and must have demonstrated financial need.
Myron and Hazel Georgia Scholarship
Eligibility: Any student majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Product Design Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering Technology with a minimum GPA of 3.0 may apply. Preference given to non-traditional students.
About: Established in 1989 by William Myron and Hazel Georgia of Harrison, Mich. for students pursuing industrial and engineering technology or mechanical engineering.
Amount: Awards of past scholarships have been up to 6 awards ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 each.
Renewal: This scholarship is renewable.
Frank and Virginia Irgang Scholarship
Eligibility: Any junior or senior, who is a resident of Michigan with a major offered by the School of Engineering and Technology may apply. Transfer students are eligible to apply. Each applicant must have demonstrated service to the School of Engineering and Technology department as well as CMU. Requires satisfactory completion of the scholarship application. Two equal scholarships awarded for one junior and one senior. No minimum GPA required. However, a competitive GPA for all school scholarships is a 3.0. This scholarship is not renewable.
About: Established in 1995 by Frank Irgang, CMU '50, and Virginia Irgang for Michigan resident, junior and senior students majoring in industrial engineering and technology. The scholarship is based on full-time enrollment.
Amount: Awards of past scholarships have been up to 2 awards of $1,100 each.
Renewal: This scholarship is not renewable
John B. Slater Scholarship
Eligibility: Any junior or senior enrolled in curriculum within the School of Engineering and Technology with two recommendations from department faculty members may apply. One scholarship awarded annually
About: Established through the estate of John B. Slater, former professor emeritus, Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, for a School of Engineering and Technology junior or senior student.
Amount: One scholarship of up to $1,500 is awarded.
Renewal: This scholarship is renewable.
Stephenson Engineering Scholarship
Eligibility: Any full or part time student enrolled in curriculum offered by the School of Engineering and Technology, who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 may apply. The scholarship is renewable. One scholarship awarded annually.
About: Established in 1985 by Jo Stephenson and David Schock in honor of Jo's parents, Betty and Jack Stephenson, for a student pursuing an engineering technology curriculum.
Amount: One scholarship of up to $1,000 is awarded.

American Mitsuba Corporation Endowed Scholarship
Eligibility: Any student majoring in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and has a minimum GPA of 3.0 may apply. Preference given to qualified CME/American Mitsuba and related company associates and their immediate family members. Scholarship is renewable.

About: Established in 2009 by American Mitsuba Corporation and its affiliate CME, LLC. Preference will be given to qualified CME and related company associates and their immediate family members.

The Karolak Engineering Annual Award
Eligibility: Any junior or senior with a signed Engineering major may apply. Recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in their engineering classes. Recipient must have demonstrated financial need. Applicants must write an essay discussing how he/she supports underrepresented groups in the Engineering discipline.
The Christman Company Endowed Scholarship
Eligibility: Any student pursuing a major in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.0 or better to apply. Preference given to freshman level students who have had three years of high school math and who demonstrate
financial need. Scholarship is renewable.
About: Established in 2005 by The Christman Company. Preference will be given to incoming freshmen who have had 3 years of high school math.

Available national scholarship
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
Eligibility: To be considered for nomination, you must minimally:
- Be a current sophomore or junior pursuing a bachelor's degree on a full-time basis
- Have an average of at least B or the equivalent and be in the upper fourth of your class
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Have a demonstrated interest in a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering
- Be nominated by your college or university
Because of the highly competitive nature of this national scholarship program, you should be near the top of your academic class, committed to pursuing a Ph.D., have at least some research experience with a faculty member, and a record of active involvement in professional activities in your field.
About: This scholarship is designed to attract outstanding students to careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students who are sophomores or juniors during the current academic year and who have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in and potential for careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.
Amount: The scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, food and housing to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year.
Renewal: This scholarship is renewable. Junior scholarship recipients can expect to receive a maximum of two years of scholarship support. Senior scholarship recipients are eligible for a maximum of one year of scholarship support.
Application: If you are interested in applying for this award, you should complete this short Pre-Application Form. You are encouraged to discuss your application with faculty members in your discipline of study.
Pre-Application Deadline: The Pre-Application Form must be submitted electronically to CMU Goldwater Scholarship representatives in the CMU Honors Program.
Selection: A committee of faculty will review the pre-applications received and will identify up to four students as a "CMU Goldwater Scholar Nominee." These students will then complete the full application under the direction of faculty and the Director of the CMU Honors Program (you do not need to contact the Honors Program).
