1 North remodel and the Library Café: 24/7 spaces and resources

The 1 North 24/7 study room gets a face lift

 By Kathy Irwin

During summer 2024, we remodeled the 1 North study room to reduce noise and enhance the study experience. The room now includes active noise reduction (ANR) technology, a type of sound technology that emits alternating sound waves that cancel each other out. The wooden furniture previously in the middle of the room has been replaced with five different styles of individual study pods that will help reduce noise and visual distractions.

Eleven of the original four-person tables in 1 North are along the north curved window wall and to the left as you enter the room. Most of these tables include library computers and can be used by groups or individuals.

1 North and the Library Café are both open 24/7 when classes are in session. We hope you try out the remodeled 1 North study room and let us know what you think!

Library Café: A 24/7 space to recharge and connect

By Claire Allen

The Library Café, located across from the 1 North 24/7 study space, offers a welcoming environment for meals, conversations, and recharge at any time of day.

Open around the clock, the café provides essential amenities, including restrooms, vending machines, seating, a water refill station, and a microwave. Ponder Coffee is also available during its operating hours, making the space a go-to spot for students and visitors.

To increase the visibility of the café, especially during the overnight hours, vinyl lettering has been added around the entrance to highlight the features of the space. These updates aim to clearly define the space and ensure library users can access the resources available.
