
Details: | The John and Audrey Cumming Endowed Lecture by Norman L. Krentel, Historian and past president of the Illinois Railway Museum Michigan Railway Company. The Northern and Southern Divisions The Michigan Railway Company was Michigan's most significant electric railway. In his new book, Michigan Railway Company. The Northern and Southern Divisions (Michigan State University Press, 2025), and in this presentation, Mr. Krentel will trace the company's founding in local rail-based public transportation systems in Lansing, Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, and Owosso-Corunna to its eventual demise, abandoned prior to the stock market crash of 1929. Along the way he will examine how electric railway history is intertwined with the state of Michigan. A reception in the Clarke will follow this event. |
