Faculty Workshop: Faculty Search Committee and Diversity Advocate
In partnership, Faculty Personnel Services and the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion invite faculty to participate in a Faculty Search Committee and Diversity Advocate workshop. This workshop is intended to prepare all faculty to serve on faculty search committees but is specifically targeted at Department Chairs and other faculty who have an interest in serving as a Diversity Advocate during the search process. In their role, the Diversity Advocate provides support to search committees (and search chairs) by managing biases, diversifying, and enhancing recruitment efforts, and monitoring discussions of candidate review with purpose of bringing to light biases. Faculty who are committed to advancing CMU’s core values of inclusiveness and excellence, and have a similar commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, are encouraged to attend.
The Faculty Search Committee and Diversity Advocate workshop will contain the following elements:
- Best practices related to faculty searches
- Developing the applicant pool
- Enhancing search committee effectiveness
- Identifying and selecting candidates
- Extending the offer and welcoming the new employees
- Introduction of Diversity Advocate Role
- Managing biases
- Identifying training resources for committee members
- Self-directed learning opportunities
- Recruitment toolkit
Workshops are offered once per semester. If you are interested, contact Dr. Nikita Murry at murry1n@cmich.edu for more details.
