CMU Network Upgrade: Email 1

The email shown below was sent to all students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. A shorter version was shared via CMU Today and Student News.

Subject = CMU network upgrade project underway – What you need to know.

Following Board of Trustees approval in June, CMU entered into an agreement with Hewlett Packard Enterprise to modernize the infrastructure and significantly enhance the wired and wireless network service at CMU’s main and remote/satellite campuses. At the conclusion of this project, 100% of the university’s network hardware will have been replaced. Some of the work has already been completed and the remainder will be done throughout the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

A project of this magnitude will impact every CMU space and community member. Planned outages are scheduled, and you will need to adjust your schedule accordingly.

We strongly encourage you to visit the CMU Network Upgrade page to learn about key benefits, review the frequently asked questions, and learn when the buildings in which you live, work, take classes, or participate in activities will be impacted. Many buildings have already been assigned a specific week to be upgraded. OIT staff will work with building coordinators to determine a final confirmed date when the work will occur. The web page will be regularly updated and building coordinators will relay the confirmed date and times to occupants. Check back often and keep a close eye on your CMU email for important updates from your building coordinator. Please add reminders to your calendars on the dates and times that may impact you.

A considerable amount of planning, preparation, and coordination has already occurred and will continue throughout the project between OIT staff, building coordinators, Facilities Management, vendor partners, building occupants, and other key parties.

We appreciate your understanding and collaboration in the months ahead, and we are excited to enjoy the benefits alongside you.
