Support Services

The Office of LGBTQ+ Services and Gender Equity Programs recognizes that many factors can impact a student's ability to succeed in class and ultimately graduate. For students impacted by homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and gender-based violence, these factors can be difficult to navigate and cause them to become even more isolated. The office seeks to ensure that no student has to drop their classes or give up their educational pursuits because they could not access safe and affirming healthcare, mental health services, and harm reduction supplies.

Sexual health

In partnership with the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD), the Office of LGBTQ+ Services and Gender Equity Programs offers a variety of safer sex products for any CMU community member - no questions asked. CMDHD also comes to campus several times per semester to do free and confidential STI/HIV testing in the CSID, allowing students to be tested and know their status in an approachable and welcoming space.

Menstrual health and basic needs support

In partnership with the Clean Love Project, the Office of LGBTQ+ Services and Gender Equity Programs offers free menstrual products and hygiene kits to any CMU community member - no questions asked. Providing menstrual products for free and in an accessible space on campus not only benefits students who may have forgotten to bring supplies to campus, but also gives those experiencing period poverty or struggles accessing menstrual products the freedom to focus on work or school.

Referrals

The office keeps record of local, state, and national service providers who are LGBTQ+-friendly, pro-choice/women-centered, and otherwise welcoming spaces for students with diverse genders and sexualities. These can be accessed by students through printed copies in the CSID or by meeting with the Director.
