The Power of Resilience
Psychology professor, Dr. James Gerhart, recently published an article about COVID-19 impacting our mental health, and especially anxiety in the journal Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy, titled, “Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Mental Health: Real-Time Surveillance Using Google Trends.” Dr. James Gerhart and his group of psychologists wanted to see how people reacted to this nationwide pandemic. Dr. Gerhart found that during the quarantine lifestyle our mental stability went through a continuous cycle of fear, boredom, depression, and frustration. Dr. Gerhart also found that our relationships with friends and family develops a resilience during this time and so it is important to reach out and check in with those that we care about on a regular basis.
