CMU’s Circle Action C is a strong brand element that can advance awareness of the university and build spirit among prospective and current students, alumni and the broader university community.

Standards

Clear space and minimum size

Clear space

To maintain legibility and visual impact, our CMU Circle Action C always must have clear space around it that is not infringed upon by text or other visual elements. Use the width of the angled line from our Action C as a gauge to determine if the mark has sufficient clear space surrounding it. If additional words, such as college or department names are used with the Circle Action C, they must be below the mark.

Minimum size

To maintain legibility, the Circle Action C should never be reproduced in sizes smaller than 1 inch wide (96 px).

Incorrect use

Please avoid these common violations to ensure the mark is used consistently across all platforms.

Gold on black or gray

Because gold and black resemble another university's colors, it is not an approved color combination. If you are using the Circle Action C on a black or gray background, please use a two-color mark in maroon with a gold drop shadow.

Drop shadow color

This Circle Action C is using an incorrect color combination. The drop shadow is the same color as the background, making it invisible to the eye. Please use the logo in one of the approved color variations.

Using the mark in a word

Do not alter the Circle Action C in any way. It cannot be combined with letters to form words or phrases.

Angling the mark

The Circle Action C must not be tilted or rotated at more than 17 degrees.

Using an unapproved color variation

Do not change the color of the mark from one of the approved color variations. Please refer to the one-color variations, which are available upon request.

Modifying the mark

The Circle Action C is missing the bottom drop shadow. The mark must be used in its entirety and not altered in any way.

Placing images inside the mark

Do not fill the Circle Action C with photos or textures. The mark must not be altered in any way and use an approved color variation.
