Biography

Alan Riggs grew up in Fort Thomas, Kentucky and graduated from Highlands High School, where he was involved in band, chorus and swimming. He went on to attend Wake Forest University, in North Carolina, where he studied biology and participated in the bands. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology, he went on to attend graduate school at the University of Kentucky where he studied microbiology and co-authored a research paper on histoplasmosis.  He then entered the Clinical Associate (PA) Program at the University of Kentucky and graduated with a certificate as a Primary Care PA in 1977. His PA career includes 4 years in pediatrics in Kentucky, 3 years in family medicine in Virginia, 8 years in college health at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and 21.5 years in college health at Central Michigan University. Alan has been an active faculty member where he has taught PA classes in bacteriology, clinical pediatrics, infectious diseases, and history and physical examination. He retired from clinical PA practice at the end of 2015. Alan currently serves as a volunteer medical advisor for the CMU Chippewa Marching Band.
