Biography
Erica Johnson (she/her/hers) has served as the Director of the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center since 2019, providing direction and oversight of volunteer programming, voter engagement efforts, financial wellness programming, and the CMU Student Food Pantry resources. Erica began her time in the Volunteer Center (VC) as the Assistant Director for Alternative Breaks in 2014. Prior to joining the VC team, Erica held student affairs roles in several functional areas, including: fraternity and sorority life, student activities, career and academic advising, residence life, and community engagement. Prior to obtaining her Master’s degree, Erica worked as an auditor for a regional accounting firm. When she’s not at work, Erica enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, experiencing new foods, watching movies, attending concerts, and volunteering with her children’s parent/teacher organization. Erica is also currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership; her dissertation will focus on food insecurity among college students. Erica is passionate about helping future generations develop the leadership, civic, and critical thinking skills they need to find career, personal, and community success. Basic needs security is crucial to the learning process.
