Marquez, Itzel
Assistant Professor
FACULTY
Biography
Dr. Itzel Marquez received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Universidad de las Americas Puebla, in Mexico. She later received her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arizona where she worked in elucidating degradation mechanisms of emerging contaminants in wastewater. After her PhD she joined the Water and Energy Sustainable Technology Center from the University of Arizona as a Postdoctoral Associate, where she did research on membrane processes for wastewater reuse.
She has been doing research in wastewater treatment and wastewater reuse since her Master’s degree, from physicochemical and biological treatment, to advanced wastewater treatment. She also has experience in mathematical modelling of pollutant kinetics and transport in water and air.
Besides her academic experience she has experience in the pharmaceutical and oil industries, where she worked as a process engineer after her Bachelor’s degree.
