Biography

Professor Hurtado taught Spanish language, Applied Spanish for Latin American Business Environment, and Spanish Phonetics at the University of Florida, where she was awarded with the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award, in 1999. Professor Hurtado started in CMU in 2001 and received the University Excellence in Teaching Award in May 2005. She has been the research advisor of students from the McNair Scholars Program and the Honors Program.

Dr. Hurtado works primarily in the discipline of variationist sociolinguistics supported by quantitative analysis. She specializes in the fields of Hispanic linguistics and Spanish L2 pronunciation and syntax acquisition. She has carried out field work in Colombia and Chile.
