Biography

Dr. Thompson is a professor and senior associate dean for academic affairs. Previously she served in a similar role at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, GA. A neuroscientist by training, she transitioned from a funded investigator to a full-time medical educator/administrator serving as the neuroscience discipline head and the neurology course director at Mercer. She currently serves as course co-director for the neuroscience/behavioral science M2 course. She is passionate about medical education with an academic interest in curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and continuous quality improvement. At CMU she represents the college on the DEI council, the academic planning council, and the academic senate. Nationally, she has served on various USMLE Step exam item writing and review committees since 2011. She is a member of the AAMC Senior Medical Education Leaders Group. Dr. Thompson is active in medical school accreditation serving as a field secretary for the LCME conducting multiple medical school accreditation surveys annually. In addition, she serves as the LCME faculty accreditation lead for CMED.
