Neuroscience: Clinical Health
Major
Your path in clinical neuroscience
Are you fascinated by how the brain works? Ever wondered how neuroscience can make a real difference in the world of healthcare? Our neuroscience major with a focus on clinical health is designed for students eager to explore the complexities of the human brain. Students go on to post-graduate studies and pursue impactful careers in research, psychology or health professions.
AT A GLANCE
Why choose clinical neuroscience?
Clinical neuroscientists study the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system, exploring how these systems operate in both health and disease. They investigate a wide range of conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and stroke. Their work involves everything from conducting research on neurological diseases to developing therapies and treatments.
At CMU, you won’t just study clinical neuroscience; you’ll experience it. From hands-on research opportunities to expert faculty who are passionate about guiding the next generation of clinical neuroscientists, we’re here to help turn your curiosity into meaningful action. If your dream is to unlock the mysteries of the mind and help others, this is where it begins.
This interdisciplinary program brings together courses from four distinct departments:
Our expert faculty engage in diverse research areas, offering students at all levels the opportunity to participate in guided research projects, providing valuable hands-on learning experiences.
Studying clinical neuroscience at CMU
Here are some reasons to choose CMU for your neuroscience major with a clinical health concentration:
- Study at a Carnegie-classified doctoral research institution: CMU is in the top 10% of Carnegie-classified research institutions, designated as an R2 doctoral university with high research activity among Carnegie classified U.S. universities.
- Present your research: Students who participate in research projects often get the opportunity to present their findings at regional, national and international meetings.
- Perform research with faculty: In additional to research in the College of Science in Engineering, neuroscience students also participate at CMU's medical and other health profession schools.
- Join student organizations: Find peers and build mentors in neuroscience student organizations, like the Central Neuroscience Society and Nu Rho Psi.
- Accelerated graduate degree program: Undergraduates with a signed major in Neuroscience can pursue a Master of Science degree in Neuroscience while still completing their requirements for the bachelor’s degree. You can reduce the total number of credits to complete your undergraduate and graduate level degrees by applying up to 15 credits (500 level courses) toward requirements in both degree programs. Talk to your advisor early in your bachelor’s program.
