Physician assistants are licensed to practice medicine within a practice agreement with a licensed physician. They take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests, perform minor surgery, prescribe medications, and more.  In the pre-physician assistant pathway you will gain the foundation needed to begin your graduate education and prepare to make a difference in your community. You’ll select a major of your choice while following the pre-physician assistant program of study.

Studying as a pre-physician assistant student

The core coursework for the pre-physician assistant pathway includes anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biology, chemistry, and psychology. In addition to your coursework, you can also participate in extracurricular activities, such as volunteering or participating in research, that will help you develop your knowledge in medicine.

Since pre-physician assistant is not an undergraduate major, you'll need to select a major and complete all the prerequisite courses needed for PA school. Here are a few choices:
