What can you expect from our teaching social studies grades 5-9 minor?

Our social studies education program has teachers with real experience in middle and high schools. These teachers know their stuff and help you learn by mixing theory with real-world practice. You'll get hands-on experience in social studies classrooms, with 160 clinical hours before you start student teaching. These experiences help you build the skills you need to succeed in the classroom.

Our teaching social studies grades 5-9 curriculum includes four social studies methods courses. In these courses, you’ll do things like team-teaching and volunteer with Michigan History Day, which helps you learn more and gain useful experience.

As a teaching social studies grades 5-9 minor, you can also minor in English or Math. You can choose which grades you want to teach and be certified in both subjects. At CMU, our Social Studies education program is focused on helping you inspire, innovate, and lead in education.
