As an outdoor and environmental education professional, you can work in various areas including camps, outdoor or environmental education programs, nature centers, and adventure programs. You will teach people to sustain the natural environment and connect diverse populations to the natural world through education, programming, and adventures.

If you are the type of person who craves fresh air, adventure, and a close relationship with the natural environment, outdoor and environmental education is your career. You'll learn the practical application of skills through project-based learning, professional development, and certifications. Before you graduate, our field experiences send students out locally to engage with the public and practicing professionals.

Program Highlights

  • Take classes or workshops to become nationally certified or gain skills as a Leave No Trace Trainer, American Canoe Association Canoe Touring Instructor, Wilderness First Responder, Belay and High Ropes certification, or as a Project WILD or Project Learning Trainer.
  • Apply your skills with field experience at some of the most remarkable and renown locations globally.
  • Learn from faculty, all of whom have professional outdoor experience, in classes that emphasize service learning with a variety of hands-on, practically applied projects and assignments.

Careers & Outcomes

Our outdoor and environmental education graduates work for many organizations across the country including parks departments, camps, state agencies, non-profit organizations, schools, and many more. The work as educators, interpreters, camp directors, and programmers.
